Sonia Dilorio Sonia is a highly regarded education consultant specialising in generic school improvement work and English based training and support for secondary schools.

She has over fourteen years experience working in education, with her successful career as a practicing teacher spanning twelve years and three secondary schools.  Strong leadership skills and outstanding classroom practice secured her rise from Main Scale teacher to Subject Leader within just five years.

Notable achievements as a Subject Leader for English include:
  • Implementation and successful integration of major school improvement initiatives, such as, the National Literacy Strategy and Assessing Pupils’ Progress materials in English
  • Raised the number of pupils achieving Level 5 and above at KS3 from 70 to 92%
  • Maintained consistently high A*-C GCSE English grades: 71% in 2008
  • Secured 80% A*-C grades in GCSE English Literature (whole cohort entry-2008)
In 2009, Sonia joined Bath & North East Somerset Local Authority as a Teaching and Learning Consultant for English. She achieved accreditation for her work in 2010, having successfully led and implemented National Strategies initiatives across sixteen secondary settings, helping schools to raise attainment and achievement in English.

  • embedded the integration of the English Framework and Assessing Pupil Progress materials in English across the Local Authority
  • coached leaders and teachers of English in order to raise standards
  • inspired and facilitated the development of effective AfL practices 
  • trained and guided teams through the pilot and subsequent launch of the English Functional Skills qualifications
  • prepared curriculum teams for the transition to new GCSE English specifications
  • ran bespoke training for education professionals

  • created effective, sustainable, collaborative networks across teams of English professionals


She complements her role by working for a major exam board as an English subject adviser, moderator and examiner, is a trainee Ofsted inspector and holds consultancy roles with Tribal Education and Ofqual.
